Mael et Bastien : la collaboration d’un réalisateur et d’un résident-artiste

Depuis son installation aux Grands Voisins, le réalisateur Bastien Simon produit chaque mois un court métrage sur le quotidien des Voisins. L’épisode du mois d’aout est centré sur sa rencontre et son amitié avec Mael, un artiste-peintre résident sur le site, dans un des foyers d’Aurore. Pour la première fois, Bastien a confié sa caméra. Il nous présente cet échange croisé.

“J’ai débuté mon projet de film documentaire en janvier 2016, c’est-à-dire 3 mois après m’être installé sur le site, en créant Le Studio Argonaute avec Sophie Kieffer. De là j’ai décidé de réaliser chaque mois un petit film documentaire qui suit le projet des Grands Voisins, ses habitants, son public. En février 2016, Margaux de l’association Aurore me parle de Mael, un artiste franco-mauritanien sans papier qui vit depuis trois ans à Saint-Vincent-de-Paul. Je le rencontre une première fois, le courant passe assez bien. Au fil du temps, on se revoit ici et là sur la place du “village”, dans son atelier, et je décide de le filmer pour qu’il me raconte son histoire.  Arrivé au 8e épisode de ma série documentaire, et après que la confiance entre nous ait grandit, je décide de lui prêter une petite caméra pour qu’il filme à sa guise pendant le mois d’août. Nous en avons tiré le film Les Ailes de Mael.
